The subject of the article is Andrzej Busza’s Kafkaesque story, about Święto szpitalne. It describes the conflict of the individual with an anonymous sys-tem, the absurdity of existence, the sense of menace and uncertainty, as well as a situation which disturbs the established order and everyday monotony. The protagonist and narrator is Andrzej Busza, a conscientious male nurse, who becomes sick and tired of his occupation and increasingly critical of the authoritarian hospital system. Like Susan Sontag, Busza seems to treat illness as a polysemous metaphor.
